Wielkanoc – Easter podcast with transcript for A1/ A2
Easter is one of the oldest holidays for Christians, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It’s celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon / paschal full moon of spring. This period of the year, was always important in many cultures even before all divine religions (religii monoteistycznych) It was celebrated as awakening nature, ending of long nights and starting of warmer days etc. The English term is derived from the Saxon spring festival Ēostre which is a West Germanic spring goddess in paganist culture.
Easter is also a time of meetings with family and relatives for Polish people. It’s also common to visit church with Święconka, (the blessing of the Easter baskets) and then eat breakfast. There are specific dishes served at the festive table cakes (ciastka – babek), soups (zupy) and eggs (jajka) .
